Our story, our values

A snapshot of Sookio

Sookio is a communications consultancy in Cambridge, UK. We work with senior leaders in mature organisations where quality, trust and brand reputation are critical, improving marketing performance across every tier of the organisation by strengthening communications, from the inside out.

Working closely with the University of Cambridge, the NHS and related healthcare bodies, and large corporates, our sector strengths are in highly regulated areas such as life sciences, tech and innovation, education, and the public sector.

Through consultancy services we help you hire marketing talent, define the messaging that reflects your brand ambitions, and develop an effective marketing strategy fit for the future.

And through audits, mentoring and training we give you confidence that your marketing team is in the very best shape to get results, with a streamlined workflow and the right tools to do so.

Founded in 2008 by Sue Keogh, FCIM, FRSA, after a decade in broadcast media and with large internet portals (BBC, ITV, Yahoo, AOL, Bauer Media, GOV.UK), we’ve won multiple awards including Service Excellence and Website of the Year, along with regular recognition for Sue for entrepreneurship and impact. We’re particularly proud of our work experience initiatives which have given 150+ early career marketers a clear route into the creative industries.

Our values

Innovation for the betterment of society

Based in the thriving Cambridge ecosystem with the University as its beating heart, we’re surrounded by startups, spinouts and prestigious institutions driving progress in sustainability, healthcare and responsible tech. The spirit of entrepreneurship and sense of possibility is infectious.

Always keeping abreast of industry trends, we get a kick out of helping smart people articulate and communicate their ideas to the world, amplifying their message and accelerating growth.

Empowering others through knowledge, skills and opportunities

At advisory level, we shape the framework for a positive company culture which drives results. Strategically, we upskill marketing teams and have trained 1000s of people to enable them to use their talents for commercial success. We have always banged the drum for accessible content and digital inclusion, and do what we can to encourage more diverse talent into the industry.

Best practice in communication

With a wealth of experience across print, digital, radio, TV, and social media campaigns – working with the BBC, ITV, Yahoo, AOL, Government Digital Service, the University of Cambridge, and 100s of SMEs – we have a joy at seeing communications done well and always lead the way in best practice, speaking regularly at events and hosting the Communication Untangled podcast.

As well as influencing consumer behaviour, we want to get the foundations right too; we know how effective communication across organisational structures, leadership styles and among teams leads to a stronger performance above the surface.
