Our two most popular web copywriting courses

1. Writing for the web (half day)

One of our flagship courses! The goal of this session is to boost your skills and give you more confidence in writing for the web.

We look at what makes it different to writing for print, and the simple tricks you can use to make your content easy to read – so your readers are able to understand and retain the information.

There will be lots of best practice examples and activities along the way, for both individuals and groups.

Do let us know about any subject matter, or particular sections of your site you struggle with, and we’ll build activities around this in the session.

Kick-off discussion, with intros and whiteboard discussion about the different audience groups and the different types of content people are writing

How do people read on the web? The difference between reading content in print and online. What do users like? What do they find frustrating? Let’s not forget mobile too. With some quick tips which we’ll expand upon throughout the session

Who are you writing for? Think about your audience and their needs. How can you answer their questions with your content? How will you grab their attention?

What makes a good layout? Creating an intuitive, user-friendly and visually appealing experience through our content.

The importance of plain English. How we can make it easier for users to understand and retain the information. We’ll also cover the basics of SEO and why it’s important for Google to find you.

2. Writing for digital marketing (full day)

This session covers some of the subject matter from Writing for the web, plus:

The principles of writing for marketing: what approaches are effective across different formats?

Focus on blogging for business, from attention-grabbing headlines to clever content.

Focus on email marketing, from subject lines to calls to action.

Plus lots of brilliant examples from across your sector to illustrate our key points, and group activities so you can put theory into practice during the session.

And we might just give you homework too!

  • Sookio’s training was superb, giving my charity a comprehensive overview of writing for the web.

Their advice focused on how to best communicate with our audience, helping us to reach fundraisers, patients and researchers even more effectively. I’d like to thank them for sharing their vast expertise and experience.

  • So enthusiastic and motivating

Just to say a big thank you for the training this week. As a Sookio fan of many years, it was really great to meet you … even if it had to be via Zoom.

You are just so enthusiastic and motivating (#inspo as my daughter would say) – and such a genuine and lovely person to work with.

Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and expertise. It’s been so useful – as well as a lot of fun. Stay brilliant!!

  • The biggest outcome internally is confidence

Sookio provided training for staff across the city's cultural spaces to ensure the work had life beyond the campaign budget.

The biggest outcome internally is the confidence our comms staff have gained from taking part in the training sessions and creating content.
